GTG Group provides end-to-end geosciences services: groundwater exploration (finding water), borehole drilling, yield testing (measuring how much water you'll get), pump installation, water quality testing, geotechnical analysis for construction, plus all regulatory compliance including Water Use Licence Applications and borehole registration.
In South Africa, all boreholes must be registered with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) within 60 days of completion. For water use exceeding Schedule 1 limits (basic household use), you need a Water Use Licence (WULA). GTG handles both registration and licence applications on your behalf.
A Water Use Licence (WULA) is government permission to use water beyond basic domestic needs. You need one for commercial farming irrigation, industrial use, large-scale extraction, or any use that may impact other water users or the environment. The application process takes 3-12 months - we manage the entire process including technical reports.
We use geophysical surveys (measuring underground electrical resistivity and magnetic fields) combined with geological mapping and satellite imagery analysis. This identifies fractures, aquifers, and optimal drilling points - significantly reducing the risk of a dry borehole. No method guarantees water, but proper exploration dramatically improves success rates.
Yield testing (pump testing) measures how much water your borehole can sustainably produce. We pump the borehole for several hours while monitoring water levels. This tells you the safe extraction rate - critical for sizing your pump correctly and ensuring you don't over-extract and damage the aquifer.
